The Serra de Montemuro is the eighth highest elevation of Continental Portugal , with 1382 meters of altitude . It is located in the municipalities of Arouca ( district of Aveiro ), Cinfães , Resende and Castro Daire and Lamego ( district of Viseu ) and between the regions of the Douro Litoral and Beira Alta .

The average altitude is 838 meters. It is comprised between the river Douro, the North and the river Paiva, to the south, borders with the city of Lamego. The highest point of the mountain is denominated by Talegre or Talefe, to 1,381 meters of altitude. The whole mountain range has a lot of relief and is steep practically on all sides. The mountain range is populated until about 1,100 meters of altitude, the villages are scattered throughout the mountain range, but almost always near water courses , like the river Bestança that divides it in the South-North direction.
